Plant Stakes - some good

Well yesterday morning I looked in the kiln and was disappointed by my little experiment w/ aluminum.

darn

The glass was too hot to handle and tonight was my first chance to get back and take pictures. Life is good, but busy and can get in the way of glassing.

My other garden stake was made w/ copper star inclusions. The copper turns red when used this way and can be very pretty.

I learned.
Anyone want some aluminum?
Actually the disintegrated aluminum is cool, it's just not the effect that I was looking for in this project.

I'm sure I will be able to use this in the future.

Garden stakes

It's a beautiful, breezy, not humid summer evening and I was just able to load the kiln w/ some new glass for garden stakes before my meeting tonight. On one of the three glass pieces I'm trying a new aluminum star inclusion.  I love the anticipation of not knowing what I will find when I open the kiln in the morning.

Hoping it is good.

Progress

I really like how the fuchsia dish turned out.
This is the first kiln project in a while.
I hope to continue this momentum.

My stained glass project progressed nicely yesterday. I don't have enough of the right color for the border, so I thought I would just get the flowers framed in clear. You can't tell in the photo, but the clear glass that I am using has a leaf texture. I want to create a border in amber or green. I will visit our local glass shop next week to check out their selection.

Happy glassing!

new projects

A few new projects in the works -

I have decided that I need to keep my soldering skills honed otherwise when I do a stained glass project the re-learning time kills the project and my creativeness (is that a word?).
Therefore I need solder more than once every 4 years.    :-)
I fused some flowers in clear glass squares for the center pieces in this stained glass panel. I am in the process of designing the panel. I hope the idea in my head - makes it to paper and then glass.

In the kiln now is a fuchsia colored square dish that is slumping. I used some subtle iridescent glass elements. I hope this mold that I am slumping over works; I will know in a few short hours.

I am enjoying time for creating glass today. Happy Saturday!

Summer, gotta love it . . .

The rain was yesterday and perhaps tomorrow ~ tonight we have blue skies and warm weather.

My first purple coneflower is blooming.
~smile~

The Catalpa Tree is in bloom.
Lovely and fragrant.

I was able to finish my last two garden stakes. I fused the glass days ago.

Happy Summer!

Summer Solstice

My lilies are blooming.

My daughter graduated from high school.

My mom has been sick, hospitalized for a week, and is now in rehab.

Glass work has taken a back seat to the rest of life this month.

This is my latest -

It's a blue box with cover. I took a short cut and didn't kiln wash the mold. The kiln wash stuck to the glass and now there is more work because I need to clean the glass before I can decorate.
I'm thinking of a yellow flower for the top of the cover, but this may change.

Hope you have a great Solstice!
