New Work

The birdbath bowl worked well for a large slump.

bird bath edge

Sometimes I have issues slumping large projects. I used a conservative kiln schedule and it seemed to have worked well.

I am still into reactive glass.
This is a new color for me. It's Salmon Pink.
I don't see the pink, it is a very pretty brown/tan.

It is finishing the slump into a dish right now in the kiln.

I also have been playing with more recycled glass and enamels.
I love the tie dyed look.

New Year

2019 has been snowy in Wisconsin.
I was able to get out and continue walking which is good. I prefer snow over ice.

I have been both lampworking and fusing this past week.

I made simple beads for a new bracelet. The colors don't show well in this pict, but they are a pinkish with green - lovely. I am using a purchased frit blend from Val Cox to provide the color.

I created a recycled plate/dish with recycled glass and enamels for color. I think I'll call this one the starry night. It is dark with the black on the one side.

I finally slumped this dish and it turned out better than expected. I had created the glass round for slumping in a summer class that I took last August. I like how the colors work together.

Another project that has been sitting on the back of my bench was this vase. I created it by dropping glass through a drop out mold at least 5 years ago, but never cut off the top to make the vase.

I fixed my glass saw this week.

I loved it and was excited until is broke as I was smoothing/sanding the top to finish it off yesterday. I will have to drop another vase/glass now that my glass saw is fixed.

New Jaws Project

Woods

The weather here has been really nice and allowed me to finish up the outside projects before the real cold and snow hits. I do love to take walks with the sun shining and the leaves crunching under foot.

I used the Patty Gray Jaws technique to create a project. Partly to refresh my memory of the process and partly to use up some scrap glass.

I have a 8" Patty Gray dam that I can use and if I use this dam I will be able to slump it because I also have a slump mold that will fit the 8" dam project.

Dam start
I started with a clear base with two layers of black glass for the sides.

adding scrap
I then started adding yellow, red and clear scrap.

Here is the jaws scrap glass before fusing.

pre-fuse
Here is the project prior to fusing it.
Fused in mold/kiln
Here is the project just after fusing - still in the kiln.

Finished in sun
Here is the finished project in a sunny window.
The center section (jaws) really pops with the black sides.
Love this technique and the project.

Recycled glass w/ enamel color

I am really enjoying the use of enamels with recycled glass to add a bit of color.

a bit of color brightens the cold days. . .

This square dish will be great for organizing my desk.

The yellow and orange colors really shine through on this wonky bowl.

I still need to smooth the edges of this blue bowl. I can't wait to get it finished.

new work

A new dish.
The glass color is a transparent brown with opague black dots.
The transparent color becomes powerful after it is fired, but before it's fired the the color is weak and not spectacular.

Hope your week is all you want it to be.

new projects

A few new projects in the works -

I have decided that I need to keep my soldering skills honed otherwise when I do a stained glass project the re-learning time kills the project and my creativeness (is that a word?).
Therefore I need solder more than once every 4 years.    :-)
I fused some flowers in clear glass squares for the center pieces in this stained glass panel. I am in the process of designing the panel. I hope the idea in my head - makes it to paper and then glass.

In the kiln now is a fuchsia colored square dish that is slumping. I used some subtle iridescent glass elements. I hope this mold that I am slumping over works; I will know in a few short hours.

I am enjoying time for creating glass today. Happy Saturday!

Stars 'n Stripes

Okay - wrong time of the year (unless you celebrate president's day!), but a great use of some scraps as well as trying an inclusion of punched copper stars.
I love the way the stars turned out. Sandwiching them between two layers of glass and heating them altered their color.

Red Glass - my favorite

I love red.

(This is the glass that started as yellow,
but striked red in the kiln.)
